Is China really destroying the Tibetan culture?
Posted on May 28th, 2010 by admin
or are the Tibetan ancestors and relatives and parents does not know HOW to enculturate their own kids. Music; Language; Art; literature; Theater.
Han people was sent into Tibet to help the economy and I still don’t get why somebody would say they are destroying the Tibetan race? Or are you saying that some Tibetans marry Hans because I know a friend that is one of those mixed but in Tibet there’s very few who does that anymore.
I think China is modernizing the place. And I think most Tibetan has this ‘excuse’ so they can ask for full independence from China.–my radical thought. You don’t have to believe it though.
Please be grateful to all cultures. Yes cultures can be awkward and weird but it doesn’t mean it sucks.
Jorienta…
Do you really dislike China so much because of the rocky relationship between Japan and China?
I just don’t know; from some of your post you really sound like a Japanese nationalists.
We already now China annex it but it is trying to open up Tibet by building the railway; economy is improving; etc.
We don’t see slavery anymore. .
I agree with you that Han help Tibetan to be modernizing. I do think the culture revolution destroy the Chinese culture including Tibetan culture. Afterwards, the cultures have been recovered although not 100%. But I don’t think Tibet will be independent since they are belonged to China. It doesn’t matter what others think. Up to date, no one can claim Tibet is their country. And Chinese mentality is you can’t lose one inch of your mother land even you have to die. Therefore, encouraging people in Tibet to against Han people and Chinese government only can harm people there.( Chinese people will fight to protect the mother land.) After this Tibet incidence, my guess is that Tibetans will be labeled as violent race and no long welcome to mainland and the financial aids to Tibet will be reduced. Therefore, people, who want to free Tibet: please don’t just shout it outside the Tibet. Why don’t you get your gun to do it yourself? If you don’t have the guts to do so, why don’t you mind your own business! For people who don’t support Beijing Olympic, you don’t have to go to Beijing or go there to see how “bad” it will be, why did you try to destroy the Olympic Torch. Again, you free Tibet with your gun, not by destroying the Olympic torch!

The strange thing is that White people (which for Aboriginal peoples includes all non-Aboriginals where I live) are saying exactly what you are saying about Indians and Inuit in Canada.
Edit: …which proves my earlier point: there are a lot of good people who are well-intentioned in their actions in Tibet and truly and honestly believe that they are doing the right thing, which I applaud…So what’s missing in the equation? I think you figured it out…those affected or concerned must be involved in deciding what is best for them. "Daddy knows best" is fun but it doesn’t work.
Edit: amyprodigyzhang, you are a scary person. Guns? Protecting the Motherland? Race? I don’t even want to type the name of the ideology you are championing…

Tibetan culture sucks but no one is destroying it, unless somehow electricity is a cultural menace.
To the first poster: A nazism reference? How creative, never saw that coming. Ever heard of goodwin’s law? The instant someone makes a reference to nazis or Hitler BAM! The debate dies.

Your post is just one sided. Let’s listen to Tibetans.
Can "modernizing" be a reason to justify China’s action?
If so, Japan did good thing for East Asian territories in the pre-war time.

Actually the policy was not a colonial policy but annexation.

Tibetans even can’t speak Chinese, language is carrier of civilization, how could we destroy their culture?
If native Americans stillcan’t speak English today, how would Americans react?….Americans already complained Hispanics don’t speak English.

I’m sorry to say this, but this shows exactly that many Americans are poorly educated, and think what they know is always right(they probably can’t even point out where Tibet is on the map).
