Difference between zen and tibetan buddhism?

Posted on May 16th, 2010 by admin

well, Im reading the tibetan book of life and death, but I don’t know almost anything about Zen… and by the way, what is the reationship between zen and the martial art "Kendo"

Tibetan Buddhism is very deeply mixed with the native religion of the region, and is very unique within the schools of Buddhism. Zen is a Chinese/Japanese (ch’an/zen) form of Buddhism that focuses on meditation to achieve enlightenment in a flash. Zen just means "to sit".

the easy answer (which can really be dragged into a 3 page paper if needed) to this question is that the modern ways (do) is considered a more spiritual art- vs the jutsu which was a war time killing art… this is not to say that the judo and jujutsu are different in technique (the techniques that are common to both anyway) but the reason for the training is different. kendo is considered the modern version of ken-jutsu… and secondly kendo is considered a sport ( do’s are never a sport first).

kyu-do is a very popular zen art… the way to look at it is that the target, arrow and bow mean little…. the mind body connection to the moment of release is everything…. lol- and nothing… there is a popular zen story that speaks of a monk shooting his arrow at a target and he gets excited that he hit his target…. his fellow monk then decides to show him his skills with the bow/arrow and brings him to the top of a cliff over looking the ocean…. the monk then draws his bow and releases the arrow off the cliff and into the water…. when it hits the water the monk gets just as excited as the first who hit his target…. the first monk is humbled by this and understands the teachings taught.
