His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama: Ethics for Our Time
Posted on May 11th, 2010 by admin
In this talk His Holiness turns to one of his favorite themes: the importance of compassion. Far from being a uniquely Buddhist concern, the Dalai Lama explains why caring for others can be the basis for a rich and rewarding life for all people. Whether one is a Buddhist or not, whether one is religious or not, a concern for the welfare of others is just good common sense. Compassion changes egotism into empathy, and transforms fear into freedom. It is the basis for both personal and communal peace. Series: Voices [9/2009] [Humanities] [Show ID: 17091]

His Holiness, along with other monks in Tibet, are worried not with their own material freedom. Alas, they have attained mental freedom, which conquers all other types.

China may have …
China may have stolen the Tibetan Land, but Tibetans will always be Tibetans in their hearts. China Will never conquer the Tibetan people, because deep down the Tibetans will never accept their rule. The Dalai Lama is Tibet. China can pretend that the physical Tibet belongs to them, but spiritually, it is impossible.

Michael Parenti is …
Michael Parenti is right — “Religions have an age-long relationship not only with violence but also with economic exploitation. Indeed, it is often the economic exploitation that necessitates the violence.” The Tibetan theocracy was no different. Most of the arable land was still organized into manorial estates worked by serfs and owned by monasteries and secular landlords in a way which is very similar to today’s Western capitalism which enriches a few parasites at the expense of taxpayers.?
