Do the Han Chinese think that they are superior to the Tibetan people?

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin

Unfortunately, yes.

SOME Han Chinese do look down on Tibetans and other Chinese minorities.
(note, I said SOME, not all)

"I think that Tibetans are wild and violent, it’s dangerous to go there" – almost word for word quote from one of my Chinese students recently!

Just like any other country there are people who are racists and who look down on other people.
It comes down to generations of wars and stories from the past, which sadly, people still believe.

I have also met a lot of Chinese who would love to go, or have been and loved Tibet.

:-)

Why do people care about the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Buddhists?

Posted on May 28th, 2010 by admin

Even at my alma mater, there was a "Tulane Tibetan Club"… with no Tibetans!

I don’t understand the allure of Tibetan Buddhism and the Dalai Lama.
That place is so remote, most people probably couldn’t even find it on a map.
Plus, their lifestyles are so pastoral and nomadic… it’s nothing like us!
And unlike, say, the Palestinians, there’s basically NO Tibetan-American community to speak of!

So what’s the big allure with this guy and his Buddhist group?

Fad, or people are so entangled with technology that they seek a freedom from it all, and the inner peace the Buddhists often portray.

Why is there a problem with the tibetan people and the 2008 olympics in beijing?

Posted on May 22nd, 2010 by admin

Tibet has been ruled by China for years and the Tibetan people want to be free of Chinese rule. China does not want to let go of Tibet as this could signal a break up of China as we know it because there are a number of regions within China who would like to rule themselves.

What is austronesian compared to Altaic or Sino-Tibetan people?

Posted on May 19th, 2010 by admin

and what is this austro word?

Someone told me asians immigrated to australia, so natives of australia are originally

Hi!

Austronesian people are the present day Southeast Asians and Pacific Islanders: Malays, Southern Thais, Filipino, Indonesians, Timorese, Micronesians, Melanesians, Polynesians.

Altaic people are the present day Central Asians: Koreans, Mongolians, Manchus, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tajik, Turkmen, Tatar, Finnish, Hungarian, and Estonian.

Sino-Tibetan people are the present day East Asians: Chinese, Tibetans, Burmans.

Australian Aborigines were originally natives of Southeast Asia. As the Austronesians migrated to Southeast Asia, they were forced to flee to Australia – where their culture eventually flourished.

Actually Tibetan culture is flourishing now. So many singers, dancers, composers, and writers are growing up. Although there is contradiction between tradition and modernization, this is what every country has experienced.
