Although I’m coming …
Although I’m coming from the opposite end of the religious spectrum – I’m a traditional Roman Catholic – I can certainly dig Mr. Nishijima’s teachings on inner peace and the search for Truth. I believe I’ve found the definitive truth. Others may believe that truth is something more subjective, and are still seeking it. At the very least, we are searching for something beyond ourselves and the material world, and that is something I can heartily respect.

You’re right to say that. I did not say that ‘truth’ is the only meaning. There are around 10 commonly used meanings for the word dhamma.
Most monks choose to use the word truth as that’s the closet meaning in the teaching of the Buddha as I was told by my teacher. Further more if we keep changing the meaning, it’ll be difficult for the beginners to understand and create a lot of confusion. So, we keep it simple the way Buddhism should be and call it “truth”

About 1 month ago you wrote: “…”dhamma” means the “truth”.
‘Dharma’ (Sanskrit)/ dhamma (Pali) means many things : duty, law, doctrine, teaching, things, phenomena, condition…the meaning depends on the context.
Satyam’ (saccam in Pali) is much closer to the English word ‘truth’.
I’m merely correcting an error, you understand – not commenting on your understanding of Buddhism

Hi again, impermanentoo -
Some comments ago you wrote: “The actual meaning of the words “dhamma” means the “truth”. That’s not quite right.
Dharma (or dhamma), from the root DhR, to hold, means many things : conduct, duty, practice; law, doctrine, teaching;? things/phenomena, actuality, condition or (essential) quality…the meaning depends on context.
…The word for ‘truth’ is satyam.

This is what I know …
This is what I know..each person is composed of two selves…the human self and the divine self. With my definition of ‘real’ being ‘that which is constant’ the divine self is all that is real. The source of all that is human is thought. Thought is the source of all our beliefs, knowledge, wisdom, and actions, and it is the only thing we can control consistently. Let go of thought and you let go of your humanity. Let go of your humanity and all that remains is the divine. You are now ONE. Peace.

Buddha said that ther’e’s so such thing as a sole creator god but there’re numerous gods. That explains why the followers of those religions that worship gods can connect with gods.
If there’s an almighty god, so which one is true true one since so many religions claim that their god is the most powerful god?
What Buddha meant was we can get help from gods but it’s through our own effort that we’ll be enlightened.

@seekhim777 ” …
@seekhim777 “Enlightnment to me”. If that is your understanding, then you lack understanding. Enlightenment is finding we have the power in us. we do not need a god or jesus. To ask for something from someone else not knowing yo have had it. is a lack of wisdom.
